Surfing enthusiasts in Qatar have a reason to rejoice with the launch of Stingray Surf Machine, the latest addition to the growing list of exciting attractions at Aqua Park Qatar. A first in Qatar, this new attraction is the first surfing/skim-boarding half pipe ride in which surfers can ride up curved sidewalls at 90 degrees to the direction of the water flow. This new ride from the UK costing QR5m brings the total number of rides and attractions at the Aqua Park to 15.

“We want everyone in Qatar to enjoy the experience of surfing not in the sea but in an environment where safety and security are in place. We hope this new product of ours will act as a catalyst to attract more people to Aqua Park this season,” Mohamed Firdaus Raj, Aqua Park General Manager, told The Peninsula. The first theme park in the country, Aqua Park attracted around 150,000 visitors last season which ran from April to November, said Raj, adding people from neighbouring countries have also been coming to the theme park to avail of the amazing water rides and attractions it offers such as Boomerango, speed slides, wave pool, Jacuzzi cave and tube slides among others.

“Among the neighbouring countries our main market is Saudi Arabia, which is around 15 to 20 percent. The park witnesses more Saudi visitors during the holidays especially in Eid Al Adha,” he said adding promotions have been launched to draw more tourists. Tickets are also sold at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) where Entertainment City is located which GCC tourists are visiting for the festival. Ticket for Stingray Surf Machine costs QR50 which entitles the person unlimited ride during the day, said Raj. To celebrate the launch, Aqua Park is offering three tickets for the price of two.

In line with the launch, there are also plans to introduce surfing classes for those who would want to take surfing as a hobby in addition to the setting up of a Stingray surfing club at attractive membership rates, he added. Raj also announced at yesterday’s press conference the new Aqua Park App which can be downloaded on Google Play and IOS store for free. “This latest technological addition to our service delivery process is part of many other efforts to improve engagement with our cherished customers and ease of access to our services. The app also facilitates communication among our customers and potential park visitors, allowing us to serve them better with their feedback,” he said.

The mobile app allows customers to purchase tickets directly, get updated with events and attractions, and receive first hand info on timings, freebies and promotions.
