Following the successful internship programme during the past two years, students from the Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) are invited to apply for the 2016 summer internship programme at the London office of leading global strategic communications consultancy, Blue Rubicon. The summer internship programme reaffirms Blue Rubicon’s long-standing commitment to nurturing and developing local talent in Qatar, in line with the Human Development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The commitment is exemplified by Blue Rubicon’s opening of its first international office in Qatar in 2013, and is in line with the company’s strategy to invest in developing local talent and in partnerships with local institutions in Qatar. Now in its third year, the partnership between Blue Rubicon and GU-Q has been designed to offer ambitious students an opportunity to gain professional experience in the various branches of the strategic communications industry, as well as offering a first-hand experience of working in one of the world’s most diverse and sophisticated media markets.
Throughout the programme, fully funded by Blue Rubicon, the interns will gain exposure to both the theoretical and practical aspects of working in a professional communications consultancy. Travelling first to Blue Rubicon’s headquarters in London, the selected interns will complete an intensive in-house training programme before returning to Doha to complete the second half of the programme in the company’s Qatar office. The intensive programme will introduce the interns to strategic communications, public relations, media training, crisis management and cutting-edge digital communications, all in a global setting.
During their training in London, the students will also learn about the Blue Rubicon Institute, an international centre of excellence for research, thinking and strategic consulting. Dr. Gerd Nonneman, Dean of GU-Q, commented: “This program has been a success for us from its inception: it brings just the kind of real-world exposure and engagement that meshes with our curriculum and prepares our students to contribute fully to society.”
Neil Daugherty, Managing Director at Blue Rubicon in Qatar, said: “We look forward to welcoming a new intake of Georgetown University-Qatar students for the third consecutive year into our fully-funded summer internship programme. Students from Georgetown continue to demonstrate a high standard of intellectual inquiry and a keen appetite for professional development, and, most importantly, they continue to mirror Blue Rubicon’s belief in the importance of combining an international viewpoint with a deep understanding of the history and culture of Qatar and the region.”
International Politics students Nadia Al Khater and Abdurrehman Naveed were carefully chosen from over 50 strong GU-Q candidates in August last year to complete the Blue Rubicon 2015 summer internship programme in London and Doha. Commenting on the internship experience last year, Sophomore student Nadia Al Khater said: “My internship with Blue Rubicon was wonderful. With back-to-back workshops, as well as great mentors to guide me along the way, it was both an enriching and exciting experience. Even more, the workplace culture was creative and inspiring. I am envious of the new interns in this coming summer internship programme!”
Blue Rubicon opened its first international office in Qatar in September 2013, and has since opened new offices in Dubai and Singapore in addition to its main office in London.
