LuLu Group, in co-operation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) member-states, inaugurated the Asean Food Festival at LuLu Hypermarket - Al Messila. The event marks the 50th founding anniversary of Asean.
The inaugural ceremony was jointly officiated by the envoys of different Asean countries. Ambassadors and charges d’affaires representing Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Brunei were present at the ceremony. The guests of honour included Etienne Thévoz, Swiss ambassador to Qatar. The event, which runs until November 30, is being held simultaneously across all LuLu Hypermarket outlets in Qatar and offers discounts on a wide range of imported products from the Asean countries, LuLu Group has said in a press statement.
The festival largely focuses on the food products and cuisine of Asean countries and the event has grown in popularity in Qatar since year 2010, the statement notes, adding that the collective efforts of the embassies of Southeast Asian countries is to promote products of Asean origin in the Qatari market. On offer are more than 130 varieties of fruits and vegetables together with Deli Hot and Cold items, ice-creams, chips, candies, biscuits, coffee, dry fruits, canned foods, beverages and energy drinks, and frozen items such as fish fillet, French fries, sauces, chicken franks, chicken breast and pastries, etc from the Asean countries. Special counters have been set to enable customers and food connoisseurs to taste the fruits and different varieties of food items.
Apart from food products, a wide range of health & beauty and household items are also available on shelves at “competitive prices”, the statement adds. Mohamed Althaf, director of LuLu Group, extended his greetings and said the event was a timely effort at promoting Asean food in Qatar. “ Over the years, we have enjoyed excellent support and co-operation from each of your embassies. We assure you of our continued support in the future to further strengthen our relationship.”
